I made this trailer along with a great team at Simon & Shuster, it’s about Red Means Run. Red Means Run is a novel by Brad Smith. It’s a murder mystery based on the lead character Virgil Cain, an ex-athelete who likes to be by himself, and gets framed for murder. It’s set in the Hudson River Valley. I made this little trailer for Brad’s book, where he lives in the Grand River Valley, around his farm, and his life, where he likes to be alone. Brad’s never been framed for murder though. Please watch it here. We made it one afternoon. No script.

I grew up around there too, so I did all the early morning footage driving around all my old haunts.

Why the hell are we all still driving polluters? I know one guy who isn’t, he’s a farmer from Canada, he also happens to be a rock’n roll legend, my Buddy Neil Young! He’s converted a 50′s Lincoln into a full electric cruiser, It is one of the coolest cars ever. What I wonder is if a farmer from Canada can make a full on electric car, why the hell aren’t all automakers? Vote with your dollars and support sustainable, local and organic practises in your community, your children and grandchildren, and great grand children will thank you. The system is not going to change top down, so stop waiting, spread awareness and lets build a better planet from the inside out.

The little film above is of Neil presenting Lincvolt at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, Fall 2010. I made it with Neil and Will over at Shakey Pictures

In partnership with Scotiabank and the City of Toronto. Daniel Lanois, Mark Howard and myself worked with a team of experimental film artists, a curator and an team of architects to pull off a 24hr (7pm-7am), 100,000 watt (Meyer) surround sound and projection spectacle that occupied an entire city block sized square in front of Toronto City Hall in October of 2010.

This little film is a rough abbreviation of some moments from the night, beginning with one of my short time-lapse films of the gigantic 30′x50′ mirror that was suspended over the sunken boxing ring-like stage.

Daniel and Mark made all the sound, Meyer provided the 24 speaker towers, while I ran all of the prepared imagery and shot live performances.

At midnight we debuted the Neil Young film Le Noise to 25,000 spectators well above the allowed noise level.

It will always remain 24 hours that I will barely remember.

Special thanks to curator Anthony Kiendle, and his assistant Simon Plashkes, and to the Architects at Adrian Blackwell and associates for the speaker/visual pod and stage realizations . Extra Special thanks to the artists who performed all night, Trixie Whitley, Cannonball Pizer, Carolina Cerisola. Shouts out to the other contributors of filmic beauty Nicholas Provost (Kissing Film, and Vegas Cityscape) and Jwest (Fruitloops and marinated film loops). Most of all I want to thank the diehard fans and crew that were with us till well past 7am.

I will at some point add other interesting outtakes and insights from the night as I recollect them.

This is a trailer for the film I made with Daniel Lanois and Adam Samuels. Anton Corbijn shot the moroccan courtyard scenes. It was the first time i’d ever done anything like it. I’d never shot or editied moving picture before, but i’ve been a photographer since I was about 6. It was a collaborative learning experience examining Lanois’ process inside out. The filming of “Harry” in this film is witness to the birth of my own unique vison. The film as a whole is a seed I will nurture and grow for the rest of my career. It premiered at the Toronto International film festival in 2007. Someday soon I will post the whole film streaming from my site.

“The mystery of the recording studio is what keeps me coming back. Many rewards have come to me through this laboratory. It is my temple, my domain, my frustration and my love. But most importantly, it is my place of innovation. The ultimate drug for me is the ever slippery creative process. My greatest joy in this has come from my associations – the creative, musical and lyrical minds that I’ve been lucky to work with through years of record making. A friend recently suggested that I turn on a camera and try to capture the elusive process. Adam Vollick followed me around the studio to see if we could unveil some of the mystery.”
